PROJECT ABSTRACT:

        The objectives of this project are focused on obtaining rapid and precise, non-invasive or minim invasive new procedures for the diagnosis of the diseases by using of some advanced methodology and technology on biomarkers analysis and metabolomics profiling. The project will correlate the experimental results obtained by different spectroscopic methods (isotopic dilution mass spectrometry, NMR, IR, Raman, UV-VIS, EPR). The interest is to replace the quantitative techniques with rapid, economic and precise profiling techniques, the invasive methods with non-invasive or minim invasive methods The proposed objectives are related to the national and European priority areas. The project will have economical and societal impacts by improving the precocious diagnosis especially in the sensitive group of infants, children, pregnant women and so by the increasing of the population health level. Dissemination will be obtained by national and international publications and clinical monitoring

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

  • Development of minim invasive diagnosis of the inborn metabolic error diseases and the associated biomarkers

  • Development and validation of the diagnosis method for cirrhosis and hepatitis by SIM-GC/MS (the caffeine test)

  • Identification and selection of biomarkers for diagnosis of some diseases from breath air (extraction methods: SPME, active coal) in comparison with blood and urine samples (extraction method: headspace)

  • Selection of the optimal methods for the achievement of non-invasive or minim invasive advanced methods of diagnosis in the monitoring of infants and children

  • Communication, dissemination and application of the obtained research results.

    COOPERATIONS WAYS:

    • periodic meetings and discussions

    • e-mail, messenger, telephone communications

    • intern and extern communications and publications

ACTUAL STAGE OF THE PROJECT:

    • Development of a minim invasive method of diagosis for inborn metabolic error diseases(PKU, MSUD); biomarkers (five amino acid); method validation and clinical monitoring of the blood spots (20 µl) for the inborn metabolic error diseases PKU, MSUD;
    • Development, validation and clinical application of the diagnosis method for cirrhosis and hepatitis by SIM-GC/MS (the caffeine test)
    • Identification and selection of biomarkers for diagnosis of some diseases from breath air (headspace, SPME) in comparison with blood and urine samples (headspace) ; determination of acetone biomarker
    • Development of a non invasive method for NO and asthma control determination in breath air  to children
    • Development of a non invasive method by SIM-GC-MS for quantitative determination of LKB4 in exhaled breath
    • Communication, dissemination and application of the obtained research results.
  •                             Blood spots obtained from newborns (20µl)
